Japanese drumming first LCE Series performance
8/25/2008 - A performance by Fushu Daiko, a Japanese drumming ensemble, will launch Western Carolina University’s 2008-09 Lectures, Concerts and Exhibitions Series.
The Japanese drumming ensemble Fushu Daiko will play Sept. 18 at Western Carolina University.

Fushu Daiko, with members at right, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Fine and Performing Arts Center on the WCU campus. Tickets for the event go on sale Aug. 28 and are $20 for the general public; $10 for individuals 60 years and older and WCU faculty and staff; and $5 for WCU students.

Mesmerizing rhythms are the hallmark of Fushu Daiko, which formed in 1990 and is based in South Florida. With more than a dozen members, many of Japanese descent, the ensemble not only practices the mastery of taiko drumming, but appreciation and understanding of traditional Japanese culture.

The Lectures, Concerts and Exhibitions Series runs from September through February and is coordinated by WCU students and faculty committed to bringing quality, challenging performers, speakers and projects to campus.

Purchase tickets by visiting the Fine and Performing Arts Center box office or calling (828) 227-2479 (Visa and MasterCard). Tickets also will be available online at http://www.ticketreturn.com/. For more information about the Lectures, Concerts and Exhibitions Series, call (828) 227-7206.
