"Blues Brothers Revival" set for Halloween night
10/14/2008 -
Catch up with Jake and Elwood and soak in the spirit of Chicago’s rich blues, gospel and soul tradition with the rollicking stage musical “Blues Brothers Revival,” part of the Galaxy of Stars Series from Western Carolina University.
“The Blues Brothers Revival” will stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at the Fine and Performing Arts Center. Ticket prices are $25 for adults; $20 for senior citizens and WCU faculty and staff; and $5 for students. Audience members are encouraged to dress as their favorite Blues Brother character for this Halloween night event.
“The Blues Brothers Revival” is a musical interpretation of the original Blues Brothers movie, starring Dan Aykroyd and the late John Belushi, picking up where the movie leaves off. Jake, played by Wayne Catania, above left, is stuck in purgatory. Meanwhile, Elwood, played by Kieron Lafferty, above right, conspires to get his brother into Heaven. A live band and gospel choir provide music, including “Soul Man,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “R-E-S-P-E-C-T” and many more.
The show is sanctioned by Aykroyd and the Belushi Estate and opened in April 2004 in Chicago to positive reviews. Victor Pisano, husband of Belushi’s widow, Judy Belushi Pisano, directs the show. The Chicago Sun- Times noted the “infectious and unbridled energy” of the “Blues Brothers Revival.” The WCU performance is sponsored by the Mountaineer Publishing Co.
